In this exhibition, none of Akçura's paintings are presented in solo form. Rather, each canvass forms part of a series of related paintings. Thus the artist forges links between the changing reflections of one or more person(s) who might be standing by the same window, in the same balcony, the same house or the same deck. The viewer is given the opportunity to observe the characters' "relationship with the self."
This exhibition, where viewing is meant to be experienced as something "fluid, funny and prosaic," seeks to question an accepted dogma of art: the unity of content and form. Through a number of references to modern/classical painting, Akçura pulls us into an deliberately uncomfortable "intermediary" place.
